The Bare Internet Necessities
Just like each house and business in your community, every computer connected to the Internet has to have a unique numerical identification, called an ‘Internet Protocol Address’ (‘IP Address’ for short, eg. 204.149.27.114). Every time you visit another computer on the Internet (to send an e-mail, or view a website) your IP Address goes first to help make the right connection. At the same time, others can find you on the Internet by tracking down your IP Address. Silly computer, words are for people! As an optional feature of the Internet, you can establish for your computer a unique word ID, called a Domain Name (eg. myownsite.com, or itsme.net), which you can register and have linked to your numerical IP Address. While computers can only use your numerical IP Address for directions on the World Wide Web, most people (accountants and programmers excluded) will remember Domain Names to help them get around on the Internet. How you connect makes a big difference There are two basic ways your computer can establish a connection to the Internet:
Internet service providers are a frugal lot. They don’t provide a dedicated Internet connection/Static IP Address for each customer. Your service provider maintains a limited bank of Internet connections/Static IP Addresses, made available to you randomly when you want to connect to the Internet (now you know why you sometimes have trouble connecting to the Internet on a holiday!). As a result, you will rarely get the same line connection and its associated IP Address when you connect to the Internet. So, instead of having a Static IP Address, your computer has a ‘Dynamic’ IP Address. Static vs. Dynamic IP Address – Where’s the Problem? With the Dynamic IP Address provided by your Internet service provider, you can still use e-mail. When you sign up for Internet service, you establish a unique user name that is added to the front of your service provider’s Domain Name/ID address (eg. myuniquename@internetcompany.com). All your incoming and outgoing e-mail is delivered to an electronic post office (called a ‘mail server’) at your service provider’s Internet address. By using your password (eg. ********), you can get to your own electronic mailbox at your service provider’s Internet address where your e-mails are stored. Your Dynamic IP Address alone won’t do it If your computer is equipped with only the Dynamic IP Address assigned by your service provider, you can’t get a personalized Internet address, or your own website address and you can’t establish remote access capabilities. You need a special communications tool to make your Dynamic IP Address perform like a Static IP Address when it connects to the Internet. And, by the way, you just described DynIP, the premier dynamic DNS service. Your Dynamic IP Address + DynIP work like dynamite! When you use DynIP’s Dynamic DNS services, it doesn’t matter that you only have a Dynamic IP Address. With DynIP and your service software, you can establish your own personalized e-mail address, your own website and establish remote access capabilities. Don’t pay for a costly Internet connection. The setup and operation are easy. Whether your IP address is dynamic or static, DynIP works for you on any Internet connection! What does DynIP do? DynIP is your computer’s Internet e-traffic controller. Once downloaded and started, DynIP will continuously maintain a well-marked electronic delivery route between your computer (with its new, personalized Domain Name) and your service provider’s Internet connection. DynIP will help your service provider’s computer understand that the e-mailers and website visitors who use your new, personalized Domain Name need to be directed to your computer – every time. And with DynIP, you can enjoy the benefits and convenience of remote access. You can depend on DynIP’s long-standing services DynIP pioneered Dynamic Domain Name Server technology to give small businesses, home users and large companies a way to gain more control over their Internet connections.
