What is the difference between a Static IP Address and a Dynamic IP Address?

A static IP address is fixed or does not change. If you are part of a network (in an educational institution or business) that has direct access to the Internet, then you probably have an "internal" static IP address. A dynamic IP address changes every time you connect to the Internet. If you use a modem and telephone line or cable modem to connect to the Internet you probably get assigned a dynamic IP address by your Internet Service Provider.
